“Sheer Veneer Moose”

This work of art was crafted by Wisconsin artist Mark Jacobson, using Northern Sheer Veneer products. It was made from thousands of pieces of cherry veneer that were colored and arranged into this unusual mosaic.  Mark has been working in various mediums for over 30 years. He began using Sheer Veneer as a material for making borders on his painted pieces. Through trial and error he developed a process for coloring the veneer to any hue, while still retaining the grain pattern.  “I’ve only been working with the Sheer Veneer for a short time, and I am very excited about the possibilities it offers”, says Jacobson. “The colored veneers have a glow and a life that is quite different from paint; they are as vibrant and interesting to view up close as they are from across the room.”  The finished piece has been coated with an epoxy resin that protects it and permanently lacks everything in place.
